Education/Training/Certifications

Essential:

  • Possess a post-secondary certification in Computer Science or related and / or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in providing comprehensive computer, network and hardware support, as well as demonstrating exceptional customer service and project management capabilities
  • Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident of Canada
  • At least 18 years of age as of the posting closing date
  • Grade 12 education, or equivalent
  • Possess a post-secondary certification in Computer Science or related and / or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Position Requirements

Required Qualities and Skills:

  • Experience with day to day management of Active Directory, including the creation of new users, modification of network access rights, comprehension of group policy.
  • Experience with creation, management, backup and support of virtual server and desktop environments.
  • Excellent understanding of network wired and wireless infrastructure including switches, firewalls, VLANS and the ability to troubleshoot connectivity issues.
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the many Microsoft suites, including Windows Server and Desktop, Exchange, SQL and Office Suites.
  • Discretion and good judgement in dealing with confidential material.
  • Excellent customer service approach when interacting, and exchanging information with internal and external contacts.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (listening, speaking, keyboarding, reading and writing) and editing ability.
  • Demonstrate thoroughness, accuracy, acute attention to detail, analytic, critical thinking, and problem-solving ability.
  • Ability to work and collaborate as an effective team member with a results-driven approach, as well as the ability to work independently.
  • Well-developed time management, prioritization, and organizational skills in order to work in a fast-paced, demanding environment.

Specific Responsibilities

The Information Systems Technician shall:

  • Perform duties in a manner that reflects the Service’s Vision, Mission Statement, and Motto.
  • Operate within the regulations, policies, and procedures established by the Police Services Act, the Belleville Police Services Board, and the Chief of Police.
  • Oversee new employee creation, setup, and onboarding on the many different technology platforms as required, as well as provide introduction and training.
  • Lead, participate, and / or implement new IT project initiatives.
  • Perform security audits, apply maintenance updates, security packages and firmware updates ensuring all infrastructure remains current.  Updates shall be scheduled and applied in a manner least disruptive to day to day operations of the Service.
  • Provide an exceptional level of support and training in assisting staff with new and existing technologies.
  • Review, investigate and provide audio and video as requested for evidentiary purposes.
  • Monitor and maintain all audio and video system infrastructure, including downtown CCTV and inbuilding cameras, interview room systems, and other recording platforms.
  • Assists in monitoring and troubleshooting of LAN and WAN system performance and resolving communication and networking problems.
  • Provide technical support and maintenance for the many different building automation systems.
  • Configure, troubleshoot and provide support for Android Smartphone devices and manage those devices using Mobile Device Management software.
  • Install, maintain and update in-vehicle technologies.
  • Support and maintain telephony systems utilized for 911 and business functions.
  • Apply logical and orderly analysis process to troubleshooting and solving operational computer and peripheral equipment problems.
  • Provide support for technologies specific to public safety, including computer aided dispatch, records management, radio infrastructure, two factor authentication, dictation and other law enforcement specific systems.
  • Perform other duties as directed, required or assigned by the Chief of Police or designate.

Demands (Physical / Mental):

  • Work involves extended periods of strenuous visual concentration.
  • Work involves physical effort involving replacing / lifting / installing equipment as required (up to 23 kg in weight).
  • Work requires physical effort in bending, reaching, standing and walking.
  • Work effectively under pressure at times, within applicable deadlines.

Working Conditions:

  • Work environment involves using specialized equipment not found in a business office.
  • Work is normally completed in an office-setting, with occasional work in vehicles.

Supervisory Accountability:

  • Does not supervise.
  • Does provide specific guidance to other members for technical support of hardware and software and transfer of knowledge to users.

Type of Job: Permanent Full-Time,

Hourly Wage/Salary: Annual starting salary is $71,716.00, with pension and benefits

Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
