10 Interview Questions You’ll Be Asked

Whether you do one interview or one hundred, at some point you’re guaranteed to come across the same key questions.

Recruiters have made interviews into a science, and there’s a popular shortlist of ideal questions that help them get a deeper understanding of candidates. And because it’s important that each interview is fair and consistent, these questions come up time and time again.

But just because the questions are common, doesn’t mean your answers have to be! In today’s article, we’ll cover 10 of the most frequently asked interview questions, and how you can answer them in a way that helps you stand out. Let’s take a look!

1. Tell us about yourself

This is an open-ended question and can be a great opportunity to showcase your strengths and qualifications. Focus on your relevant experiences and skills that match the position you are applying for.

Example: “I have a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing and over five years of experience in the industry. I have a strong understanding of digital marketing techniques and have successfully implemented several campaigns. I am a team player and always eager to learn and grow in my career.”

2. Why do you want to work here?

Research the company prior to the interview and express your excitement about their mission, values, and what you can bring to the team.

Example: “I am impressed by the company’s commitment to innovation and sustainability. The company’s values align with my own and I believe that I could make a significant impact as part of the team.”

3. What are your strengths

Be honest and specific about your skills, and provide examples to support your answer.

Example: “I would say that my top strengths are my communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to work well under pressure. For example, in my previous role, I was responsible for leading a team of 10 on a complex project, and we successfully delivered on time and within budget.”

4. What are your weaknesses?

This is a tricky question, but honesty is key. Choose a weakness that is minor and explain how you are working to improve it.

Example: “One area that I am continuously working on improving is my public speaking skills. I have taken courses and actively seek opportunities to speak in front of groups to help build my confidence.”

5. Can you give an example of a time when you had to overcome a challenge?

Provide a situation where you demonstrated your problem-solving skills, creativity, and determination.

Example: “At my previous company, I was faced with the challenge of designing a marketing campaign that would appeal to a younger demographic. I did extensive research and found that the use of social media influencers was highly effective. The campaign was a huge success, generating a significant increase in website traffic and sales.”

6. How do you handle stress and pressure?

Give an example of a high-pressure situation and how you effectively managed it, focusing on positive outcomes.

Example: “I believe that prioritizing and organization are key to managing stress and pressure. I make sure to create a to-do list and set clear goals for each day. I also take breaks and engage in physical activity to help manage my stress levels.”

7. Why did you leave your previous job?

Be honest but also professional. Avoid negative comments about your previous employer and focus on your reasons for seeking new opportunities.

Example: “I was seeking a new challenge and an opportunity to grow in my career. I believe that this role at your company aligns with my goals and will provide me with the opportunities I am looking for.”

8. What are your long-term career goals?

Show your ambition and how this particular role fits into your overall career plan.

Example: “My ultimate career goal is to become a marketing director. I believe that by continuously learning and taking on new challenges, I will be able to achieve this goal.”

9. Can you tell us about a project you worked on that you are proud of?

Highlight your responsibilities, achievements, and what you learned from the experience.

Example: “I led a team on a project to rebrand our company’s image. We conducted market research, gathered feedback from our customers, and developed a new logo and tagline. The rebranding was well received by both customers and employees, and helped to increase brand recognition and loyalty.”

10. Do you have any questions for us?

This is your chance to learn more about the company, the role, and the team. Ask questions that demonstrate your interest and preparedness for the job.

Example: “Yes, I would love to learn more about the company’s growth plans and how this role fits into those plans. Additionally, I would like to know more about the team I would be working with and what the company culture is like.”
