Summer Student – Assistant Grounds Maintenance

Education/Training/Certifications

  • Training will be provided for all work.
  • Familiarity with outdoor lawn maintenance equipment would be helpful, such as lawn mowers, whipper snippers, lawn tractor, etc.
  • Willing to obtain WHMIS training.
  • Safety footwear required.

Position Requirements

  • Applicant should be physically fit and able to work outdoors 35-40 hours per week, weather permitting.
  • Job start date is May 2, 2022 and end date is Labour Day weekend.
  • Job duties include, but are not limited to: lawn maintenance using riding lawn mower, push mower, weed eaters; weeding gardens; deck washing;  window cleaning; pond cleaning; digging holes with shovels; planting a variety of plants, shrubs, flowers and trees; weekly garbage and recycling.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs and be capable of physical labour.
  • Must be able to work in various weather conditions as this is an outdoor job.
  • Must be able to follow instructions and work independently to complete daily tasks.
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from work.
  • Safety footwear required.

This job is perfect for college or university students who would like an outdoor job in an adult lifestyle community.   We have lots of work to do, but there isn’t a lot of pressure.  Our residents are all seniors who take pride in the beautiful grounds and gardens that are meticulously maintained each summer by our one staff member and summer student (with the assistance of a few very enthusiastic residents).

We really are a great place to spend the summer.
