Education/Training/Certifications

  • Be a current Faculty of Education student or a Supply Teacher
  • Have previous experience tutoring students between grades 1 – 12
  • Have a strong understanding of basic literacy and numeracy skills required for grades 1-12 or the willingness to build those skills
  • Must be comfortable working with diverse youth populations between grades 1 – 12
  • Emergency First Aid and CPR certifications
  • Written and oral fluency in French considered an asset
  • Flexible weekday/evening availability required due to the nature of work
  • Must be energetic, enthusiastic, organized, self-motivated, and professional
  • Experience working with online design programs such as Canva considered an asset
  • Provide a clear and current Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Provide proof of being fully vaccinated against Covid-19

Position Requirements

General Position Overview

The Trenton MFRC in partnership with the Hastings & Prince Edward District School Board (HPEDSB), is launching a new Youth Resiliency Tutor Program offering free, small group and one-on-one tutoring to students in grades 1 – 12 who are attending a HPEDSB school.  This program will require an organized and dedicated employee with a passion for helping youth facing educational challenges. 

The Literacy & Numeracy Tutor will be

  • Responsible for overseeing and assisting with all aspects of the implementation and execution of the tutoring program. This includes and is not limited to; program planning, promotion, intake, scheduling, and follow up
  • Act as the main point of contact for parents and handle any inquiries with the guidance and assistance of the Youth Resiliency Program Coordinator
  • Oversee and assist with the creation of take-home resources for students that reinforce the skills learned during tutoring sessions

COVID-19 vaccinations are mandatory as per Trenton MFRC policies. 

Hours of Work

The hours of work are 37.5 hours per week and are structured based on the needs of the program and will include evenings as required.
