Research Assistant

Reporting to the Principal Investigator, the Research Assistant will join a research team and work in a collaborative environment. The incumbent will perform a variety administrative and project management related duties for different stages of ongoing research projects. The incumbent will be responsible for statistical analysis and interpretation, ensuring completion of research activities, as well as assisting in the preparation of academic presentations, grant applications, and co-authorship of publications.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • University degree in Biostatistics, Statistic, Data Science, or a related field
  • Master’s degree in related field considered an asset
  • Previous 3-5 years of experience in health research
  • Experience with proposal and manuscript writing is an asset
  • Proficient in statistical programs such as SAS, R and SPSS.
  • Familiar with advanced statistical methods, including (but not limited to) regression modelling, cluster analysis, missing data methods in cross-sectional and longitudinal studies
  • Familiar with methods of analyzing high dimensional data and Bayesian modeling is considered an asset
  • Previous research experience on respiratory disease is considered an asset

DECISION MAKING:

  • Participate in decision-making about data analysis and presentation, in order to meet the needs of the research project
  • Must use judgment and personal initiative to adapt research protocols as required to meet the needs of the grant application
  • Decide how to distribute information, what method to use and who to send it to
  • Make suggestions on presentation of results and coordination of activities
  • Determine responses to general enquiries, providing reasonable answers or a means to find an answer if necessary
  • Determine when an unexpected problem needs to be brought to the attention of Principal Investigator
  • Determine coordination required in preparing grant and contract proposals
  • Determine timelines to ensure critical deadline for submissions are met

Position Requirements

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Act as the key project communicator, responding to requests for information and providing consultation regarding organization, experimental procedure, and techniques. Liaison and resource person with internal and external institutions regarding project research
  • Coordinate with research platforms and data centers to request, access and manage data
  • Conduct statistical analysis and prepare output from statistical analyses for review including graphs, tables, and interpretation
  • Ensure accuracy of all statistical analyses and interpretation in reports, grant proposals and manuscripts
  • Collaborate with team members on academic presentations, grant applications, and co-authorship of publications
  • Review manuscripts and abstracts prior to submission
  • Attend conferences as needed
  • Undertake additional duties or special projects as required in support of the department
