Position Requirements
The Information Technology Services department requires a Technical Specialist on our Systems Infrastructure Hosting team to operate and support the enterprise hosting platforms at the University. The Technical Analyst will work closely with other analysts, administrators, and security specialists to enable, automate, and maintain an array of operating systems, services and applications that make up this environment. The services include virtual machine hosting (VMWare/Azure) including backups, terminal services, Windows virtual desktops, central license server, application hosting, storage services, and web hosting environment service.
In support of these services, the Technical Specialist will ensure provisioning, deprovisioning and the fulfillment of requests related to virtual machine, application hosting, backup services, storage solutions and DNS services located on premise and in the universities Azure cloud environment. The position will support the enhancement of processes to existing services, ensuring the timely delivery of services, and preparing documentation, including related procedures. The Technical Specialist will also introduce efficiency through automation using programming and scripting tools such as PowerShell, Perl, and/or Linux shell scripting. This Technical Analyst requires some knowledge of both Linux and Windows system administration.
This position evaluates, determines and oversees technology resource use and planning. This position identifies staff system requirements and develops and implements purchase and deployment schedules. This position also completes work from escalated tickets including troubleshooting problems with software, hardware, installation, compromised accounts, viruses, security breaches, disaster recovery, and complex upgrades.
As a member of the Systems Infrastructure Hosting team, this position will be involved in implementing and supporting services as evolving technology is leveraged to meet the needs of a diverse University community. This role requires technical knowledge to resolve problems autonomously and anticipate problems and act to mitigate any risk. Strong communication skills and a focus on customer service are fundamental to success in the role.
