Position Requirements

Reporting to a Student Awards Manager, the Student Awards Officer’s primary responsibilities will be in the area of the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP) which involves administering all components of OSAP. The incumbent is knowledgeable in the OSAP policies and procedures and remains current with policy and procedural changes, respecting both the breadth and complexity of OSAP.

This position has extensive interactions with students and, in some cases, their parents, and provides education on the various components of the OSAP programs. The incumbent will monitor students’ OSAP accounts using the Ministry’s ONe-Key system and the student information system to ensure compliance reporting is maintained. The incumbent will determine when a student might qualify for further assistance using one of the many OSAP review procedures and ensure all review documentation submitted is complete. This role requires a high level of attention to detail. Occasional evening and weekend work will be required.

This position acts as the first point of contact for inquiries on a variety of student financial assistance programs. This position selects and evaluates applications for needs-based bursary and award programs. This position reviews award appeals and prepares recommendations to Appeals Committee. This position prepares a variety of reports for awards and/or needs-based bursaries. This position monitors students’ government financial assistance accounts using the respective portal systems and databases and confirms eligibility requirements are being met. This position also directs, allocates, and supervises the work of other staff.

 

The schedule for this position requires the incumbent to work evenings and weekends.

What you will do

  • Develops and administers internal guidelines for assessing student eligibility and award retention.
  • Processes award adjustments and ensures compliance with Canada Revenue Agency requirements and other regulations.
  • Records award decisions and facilitates award payments from appropriate funds.
  • Prepares a variety of reports for awards and/or needs-based bursaries.
  • Monitors students’ government financial assistance accounts using the respective portal systems and databases and confirms eligibility requirements are being met.
  • Directs, allocates, and supervises the work of other staff.
  • Conducts presentations on government and/or financial aid opportunities.
  • Other duties as required in support of the department and/or unit.
