Education/Training/Certifications

  • Work related experience in homelessness, mental health, poverty, community development and day programming
  • Current non-violet crisis intervention training

Position Summary

As part of the John Howard Society Adult Services Lead Staff team, the primary responsibilities and expectations involve developing and maintaining the Peer Support Program at Drop In for those experiencing homelessness or have problematic housing situations however, with the expectation that you are a designated lead staff on-site when a situation occurs within the program or peer mentor staff that would require a more intensive response. The position involves direct support for peer mentor staff, clients, developing the program on an on-going basis, data collection, information and referral as needed, daily staff coordination, addressing guests and client incidents and concerns, and acting as a liaison between staff and management in terms of communication and direction.

Job Description

  • Communicate organizational and operational needs
  • Assign tasks to peer mentor team members and ensure completion
  • Track daily participants and complete statistical reports for program
  • Ensure a clean, safe and supportive environment
  • Assist in providing client services as needed, this could include interpersonal support, food service, information and referral, provision of basic needs, social and recreational activities
  • Manage the environment considering harm reduction and trauma informed practices
  • Cleaning/disinfecting of client spaces
  • Manage communications between peer support workers and other external on-site staff when needed

Responsibilities

  • Support peer mentors in daily programming, assisting clients and any issues that arise
  • Engage with clients as needed
  • Develop and implement appropriate programming and supports for clients through the peer mentorship program
  • Facilitate programming with other staff and community agencies
  • Respond to needs of staff and co-ordinate required services as needed
  • Assist in providing clients with social service connections needed to obtain identification, OW, employment, counseling, education treatment etc.
  • Monitor the success of the program
  • Oversee staff’s performance and report to management as needed
  • Provide guidance and support for staff
  • Manage the reciprocal relationship between staff and the organization
  • Ongoing participation in strategic direction of the program
  • Train and orient new staff members
  • Actively enforce code of conduct, program policies and other general guidelines
  • Actively mentor peer support workers

  • Court House
  • Appointments with clients as needed in various settings

Positions Available

  • Contract position until March 2024 for part or full time as arranged with management (24-36 hours/week)

Hours

  • Drop In is open 7 days a week from 8:30am to 7:30pm, 365 days a year
  • Schedule will be made in advance for shifts within Drop In hours
  • Available evening and weekend hours

Type of Job: Full Time,

Hourly Wage/Salary: $24.00 per hour

Hours: 36 hours per week
