Position Requirements
The Cook is responsible for providing a variety of duties in a Retirement setting related to the preparation of resident meals and snacks, the service of foods and the routine cleaning of food services areas in accordance with the policies of the home and applicable legislation. The specific responsibilities and duties vary slightly from home to home, as well as from shift to shift.
These expectations will be communicated well before and during the site-specific orientation to each home prior to independent work.
- Assist with food/meal production
- Prepare trays/plates and/or distribute the resident meals and snacks according to the diet
- List/individual diet menus and the residents’ preferences
- Prepare nourishments and carts for service
- Prepare supplements and thickening fluids for texture-altered diets
- Follow each resident plan of care and communicate any discrepancies to the supervisor in a
prompt manner - Prepare tables and serving areas for meal services
- Maintain a sanitary and clean working environment in line with infection control techniques
- Maintains food handling protocols and infection control practices in keeping with public health practice and applicable legislation
- Work in accordance with the home’s Health and Safety Policies and Procedures and in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act
- Transport dishes to/from dining rooms and kitchen
- Wash/sanitize tables, chairs, serveries
- Complete the daily and deep cleaning and sanitizing of dishes, utensils, glassware and
equipment used for resident meal preparation, delivery and service - Receive, store and manage the inventory of resident food and food service supplies
- Ensure good personal hygiene, with a neat and clean appearance and in accordance with dress code for the department as per policy, such as, safe foot attire, hair net etc
- Follow and meet all pre-determined work routine and schedules
- Follow cleaning schedule and sanitation guidelines for dinning rooms and/or resident eating areas at all times

You will require access to a personal vehicle and possess a driver’s license in order to accept a position with Plan A Kingston & Quinte as it will require your willingness to travel the full area of at least 1 of the 3 zones in which our office services:
- Zone A: Gananoque, Kingston, Northbrook, Amherstview, Napanee & Picton
- Zone B: Gananoque, Brockville & Athens
- Zone C: Napanee, Picton, Belleville, Trenton, Stirling & Tweed
The commitment of a part-time position would require the flexibility to work a variety of shift types – days, evenings, overnights, 8-or-12-hour shifts, weekdays & weekends – depending on our partnered homes and the line that the employee has been assigned. The part-time position will require a minimum commitment of 45 hours bi-weekly with the opportunity to continue picking up casually around the assigned line if looking for additional hours on a case-by-case basis either at the partnered home in which you are placed for the line or within other Plan A Partnered Homes. The assigned line will require a minimum of a 4-week rotation commitment, after which time you may be considered for reassignment should the line discontinue and/or you are looking for a change. Our team will connect with you each month approximately 1-1.5 weeks prior to the next month’s schedule for confirmation prior to assigning. There are over 25 work sites to choose from. A line is defined as a grouping of shifts up to the required minimum hours and may be divided between homes throughout the employees dedicated service zone. When accepting a part-time position of 90 hours/month you will qualify for a $75 A-Wellness Bonus. Should you choose to pick up casually around the part-time position and work a total of 120 hours within the month period then you’d qualify for the $100 A-Wellness Bonus additionally should you work 150 hours within the month period then you’d qualify for the $150 A-Wellness Bonus
