Education/Training/Certifications

Qualifications and Requirements
• Post Secondary Education in social services/women’s issues, or equivalent through
combination of relevant education and related experience
• Knowledge of, familiarity with and experience working in the area of violence against
women
• Demonstrated commitment to women’s issues and the anti-violence movement
• Knowledge of, familiarity with and experience in options based counselling and safety
planning
• Understanding of and commitment to working within an intersectional feminist, anti-racism,
anti-oppression framework understanding the social, economic and political context of
woman abuse
• Ability to promote teamwork and strength in a staff group, as well as work autonomously
• Effective oral and written communication skills
• Knowledge of community services
• Computer literacy in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)

Position Requirements

Alternatives for Women, a feminist organization, provides counselling, Second Stage Housing,
transitional services and programming to abused women.

The Rural Women Support Worker is responsible to the Executive Director and will provide
outreach counselling to female victims of domestic violence in Prince Edward County two to three
days a week for 1 year (position may be extended based on funding). The RWSW will also facilitate a
Life Skills program with the support of other staff and Executive Director.

Type of Job: Contract, Part-Time,

Hourly Wage/Salary: To be determined

Hours: 14-21 hours a week
