Required Education

  • Four-Year Bachelor Degree or equivalent. In addition, requires trade certification, qualification, or on-going learning to remain ahead of changes in technology or emerging fields.

Required Experience

  • More than 3 years and up to and including 5 years of experience.

Required Licenses and Certifications

    • Satisfactory Criminal Records Check required.
  • Vulnerable Sector Screening required.

Consideration may be given to an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Job Knowledge and Requirements

    • Practical and applied knowledge of specialized methods and processes that are typically acquired through a combination of technical or academic qualification and/or work experience.
    • Provide consultation and advice on non-straightforward and/or complex issues.

    • Identify new problems and seek information and input to fully understand the cause of problems.

    • Draw logical conclusions and provides opinions and recommendations.
    • Research equity, diversity, accessibility and inclusion resources and best practices relevant to the job and unit operations in order to inform evidence-based planning.

A Brief Overview
Career Services provide university-wide support for career development and the growth of experiential learning opportunities. We empower and support students and recent graduates to design a rewarding career journey that leverages their education and skills to impact the world positively.

The Career Educator & Coach team delivers services, including individual and small group advising, workshops, and self-directed learning resources, that support developing career plans and strategies, exploring career directions and transitions, preparing for job searches and recruitment processes, discovering employment market intelligence, and connecting with relevant people and networks.

The Career Educator & Coach collaborates with relevant campus stakeholders (e.g., students, alumni, faculties, departments, instructors, etc.) to embed career development skills and experiential learning where students and recent graduates are already engaged. The Career Educator & Coach supports students from equity-deserving groups facing barriers to career paths, employment and experiential learning opportunities and meets our diverse student population’s intersectional and evolving needs. They also cultivate diverse and “”real”” career stories that normalize change, uncertainty, non-linearity, failure, and resilience. The Career Educator & Coach works within a community of other career-minded professionals and shares their expertise and resources to strengthen knowledge and practices across the team.

This position also develops and delivers career workshops and resources that accommodate diverse audiences and life experiences.

The schedule for this position requires the incumbent to work evenings and weekends.This position advises students on potential career opportunities based on their area of study by utilizing self-assessment techniques, work search practices, and labour market research. This position assists students with building the skills and confidence needed to secure employment. What you will do

    • Advises students on the relationship between degree of study and career options utilizing self-assessment techniques, work search practices, labour market research, and the evaluation of further education options.
    • Assists students with building the skills and confidence needed to secure employment, includes effective job search strategies, resume and cover letter writing, interview preparation and practice, and preparing for career fairs.
    • Coordinates and facilitates workshops and presentations to groups of students of various sizes, tailored to specific academic programs, career areas, and/or specific needs.
    • Uses knowledge of careers, theory, and labour market conditions to develop presentations, worksheets, promotional material, and resources for display at events or on website.
    • Coordinates outreach activities in collaboration with faculty, staff, and other partners to address students’ needs as well as available career development and experiential learningprograms.
    • Develops and implements annual program reviews and evaluations, and recommends and implements program improvements and new services.
    • Other duties as required in support of the department and/or unit.
