REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Master’s degree in Education or other relevant field.
• Several years (minimum 5+) experience in the development, implementation, assessment, and evaluation of outcomes-based education and / or CBME).
• Possess a significant interest in CBME, and knowledge of current theories and practices of assessment and evaluation.
• Knowledge of postgraduate medical education considered essential.
• Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office and learning management systems.
• Research experience at a post-secondary level.
• Consideration may be given to an equivalent combination of education and experience.

DECISION MAKING:
• Utilize judgement about when to involve the Program Director, Site Directors, Assessment Director, and Assessment Leads on issues that require decisions while providing advice and/or recommendations or make decisions and take action independently.
• Determine and make recommendations to the Program Director, Site Directors, Assessment Director, and Assessment Leads on the selection, development, and implementation of assessment initiatives to reflect a competency-based education model.
• Determine best assessment and evaluation format and content to accommodate a competency-based education model.
• Determine most appropriate strategies to use in orienting and updating faculty, residents and program leaders to the assessment process (e.g., workshops, newsletters, one-on one tutorials, web-based resources).
• Determine best methodology to implement when analyzing data and interpreting results given the particulars of the research activity. Determine best method to present information and draft reports.

Position Requirements

Reporting to the Manager of Education, and taking direction from the Assessment Director, the Educational Consultant (EC) will act as an advisor and consultant to the Assessment Site Leads, Program Director, Postgraduate Residency Program committees, Faculty Development leads and Academic Advisors. The EC will play a significant role in the adoption, development, and on-going refinement of competency-based models of residency education for family medicine at our four teaching sites as well as our Enhanced Skills programs. The EC activities include developing and refining assessment and evaluation tools and processes, and educating and orientating faculty, residents, and program administrators to the online assessment and evaluation system. They are expected to participate in research and scholarly activities with the preparation of statistical and qualitative reports and/or presentations for internal and external stakeholders. The EC will work closely with the post-graduate committees, faculty, residents, and administrative staff to support the CBME training programs and on-going refinement.

Job Description
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Contribute to discussions to determine short/long term goals and coordinate the effective on-going improvements to competency-based models of residency education for our Family Medicine and Enhances Skills Programs
• Provide assessment recommendations to the Curriculum Director, Curriculum Leads and ES Program Directors on the development and continuous improvement of their residency programs.
• Facilitate the development of the individuals for coordinating the transition of all assessment and evaluation tools to the on-line ‘Elentra’ system. This includes the development and update/refinement of electronic tools for use with the new system, setting up form distribution protocols, mid and end of rotation reminders, tracking completion rates and the up-loading of rotation schedule and archival data from residents’ files.
• Oversee the planning, development and maintenance of Assessment documents required for the accreditation process and Canadian Excellence in Residency Accreditation (CanERA) standards from the CFPC, across programs (e.g., documents related to assessment and evaluation tool development, etc.).
• Advise and consult with program leaders ensuring all programs and sites upload and utilize Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs).
• Work collaboratively with the Director of Assessment and Evaluation, Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME).
• Facilitate and support research and scholarship activities within the Department of Medicine relating to CBME (e.g., lead the collection, analysis and synthesis of evaluation and assessment data, and interpret results for presentation in written internal reports).
• Take leadership in liaising between the Department of Family Medicine, PGME office, and Education Technology unit to optimize CBME (faculty leads, Project Coordinator, Director of Assessment & Evaluation, other departmental ECs, and Elentra developers).
• Attend PGME-wide workshops and meetings (e.g., Postgraduate Medical Education Committee, CBME Assessment Subcommittee, and program assistant meetings) related to CBME and PGME more generally and communicate outcomes back to programs, actioning adjustments to program organization and implementation based on these outcomes in collaboration with program leaders.
• Assist in designing and facilitating faculty, resident and program leader workshops / resources relating to CBME implementation and on-going improvement.
• Perform other duties as required.
