Skill Requirements:

• Education: Grade 12, Secondary School Diploma in ECE or DSW or related field and/or equivalent training would be an asset
• Credentials: CPR and First Aid, Safe food Handling
• Security and Safety: Criminal Reference Check, Vulnerable sector screening, Immunizations up-to-date for working in a childcare setting, aged 18 or older
• Communication skills: Effective communication skills: (English) written, oral, listening and non-verbal
• Knowledge and experience preference:
• 1 to 7 months experience working with children
• 1 to 7 months experience working with children who have special needs
• Knowledge of the principles and practices of family-centered approaches and adult education
• Knowledge of strategies designed inclusive environments and curriculums in childcare settings
• Good working knowledge of the range of services and supports for children with special needs
• Demonstrated sensitivity and responsiveness to the needs of families

Note:  An otherwise qualified applicant who lacks the educational requirements of the position will be considered with appropriate equivalent related experience and/or education considered by the Employer, where the Ministry of Education has determined that such education is equivalent of the education requirement sought including registration in professional colleges.
