Position Requirements
Reporting to the Manager, Security Operations Centre, Information Technology Services (IT Services), the Security Operations Specialist (Specialist) is part of a dynamic team responsible to run cybersecurity operations for Queen’s digital environment, to investigate cyber risk and to facilitate remediation of identified vulnerabilities across the institution. Maintaining strong collaborative working relationships with IT Services’ teams and clients across the University, the Specialist identifies ways to reduce risk and documents the remediation options regarding acceptance or mitigation of risk scenarios.
This position proactively identifies information technology security threats, vulnerabilities, and exploits, and uses information to configure, monitor, and audit applications on a regular basis. This position develops and administers comprehensive security specifications, constructs defined user access control, and investigates security violations. This position also participates in the delivery of security assessments, operational capabilities, and compliance reports.
What you will do
- Maintains the security of numerous systems, ensuring configuration and policies support the management of identity, privacy requirements and security standards
- Implements technical specifications and security requirements in support of business needs
- Analyzes cybersecurity events and incidents to determine the root cause and applies the appropriate mitigation measures
- Develops and administers comprehensive security specifications, constructs defined user access control, and investigates security violations
- Develops and deploys security monitoring use cases
- Proactively identifies threats, vulnerabilities, and exploits, and uses information to configure, monitor, and audit applications on a regular basis
- Prevents data loss and service interruptions by researching new technologies
- Participates in the delivery of security assessments to ensure compliance with security policies, standards and procedures
- Participates in the development of application security operational capabilities, activities, and compliance requirements
