Required Education
- Four-Year Bachelor Degree or equivalent. In addition, requires trade certification, qualification, or on-going learning to remain ahead of changes in technology or emerging fields
Required Experience
- More than 5 years of experience
- Experience in planning and/or managing projects considered an asset
- Familiarity with PMI standards and business solutions considered an asset
- Experience in Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Systems Administration considered an asset (e.g., Oracle-PeopleSoft, etc.)
- Experience with assessing emerging trends, technologies, electronic platforms and potential digital business opportunities considered an asset (e.g., social media, etc.)
- Consideration may be given to an equivalent combination of education and experience
Position Requirements
Reporting to the Business Architect, Strategy & Partnerships (S&P) within Information Technology Services (IT Services), the Senior Business Analyst (Senior BA) takes a lead role in providing business process and systems expertise, elicitation and requirements management, journey mapping, value stream and capability modelling assistance as well as research and analysis services to support ongoing information systems and business process integration initiatives.
Initially focusing on the Enterprise CRM (Constituent Relationship Management) program, the Senior BA will also work with the S&P team in other areas such as cross-faculty intake requests or other complex needs assessments and relevant investigation efforts. The Senior BA will question why current journeys, processes and institutional practices are in place and will be a change agent with a clear focus on the constituent’s experience from an enterprise-wide viewpoint rather than just immediate needs. The Senior BA prepares to facilitate and lead cross-functional journey mapping, process mapping, process optimization and/or re-engineering and requirements workshops to best understand business needs, manage and analyze those needs, and make recommendations for solutions that meet the needs of the stakeholders. The Senior BA actively builds relationships with department leaders, stakeholders and subject matter experts to coordinate and provide the expected deliverables, communication, training and quality customer service for effective system enhancements, updates, conversions, customizations or extensions.
This position provides expertise to aid in the planning, design and development of complex technical resources. This position translates business requirements into an implementation plan with clients and members of the team. This position makes recommendations for solutions or improvements to business processes that can be accomplished through new technology or alternative uses of existing technology.
What you will do
- Elicits, analyzes, edits, documents, and translates business and functional requirements
- Recommends system and business process improvements on complex information system and business process issues
- Researches, investigates, and recommends system and business process improvements based on a complete analysis of options, resource estimates, risk/benefit analysis
- Completes detailed system specifications for workflow, scripts, reports, interfaces, conversions, modifications, customizations or extensions
Job Knowledge and Requirements
- Knowledge of concepts and principles in a specialist field that is typically acquired through a combination of advanced professional or academic qualifications and/or significant work experience
- Provide expert advice, guidance, and consultation on highly complex issues and/or where the outcome may be contentious
- Interaction with others requires highly developed interpersonal skills to effectively persuade, negotiate, counsel, and/or consult
- Adapt messages to meet the different needs of different audiences
- Prioritize and distribute work to deliver objectives on time and to the highest standard
- Identify in advance when the intended results may not be achieved and develops a plan to address the gaps
- Lead team and project meetings and develop team/unit and departmental project plans
- Lead procedural or technological change within a unit or across broader university functions
- Identify opportunities to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of work processes
- Anticipate complex challenges to ensure activities are completed on time
- Effectively leverage relevant data as input to making decisions
- Appropriately assess risks before making a decision
- Comprehensive understanding of what sexual violence, harassment and discrimination are, and their varying effects on diverse members of the community
- Question and take appropriate steps to address attitudes, macroaggressions and other behaviours which are discriminatory. Acknowledges and respects diverse cultural traditions, abilities and beliefs
- Provides analytical, technical, and educational support for a variety of computer systems, hardware and software
- Other duties as required in support of the department and/or unit
