Student Information Systems Analyst

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Undergraduate degree with a concentration in computing science, mathematics, statistics, or business analytics
  • At least five years’ experience with reporting and/or data analytics, ideally in a post-secondary environment
  • Demonstrated experience and strong proficiency using analytical and technical tools in support of information analysis and reporting, i.e., SQL, VBA, Excel
  • Experience in clarifying information needs; interpreting results; summarizing findings and implications
  • Knowledge and understanding of modern data analytics practices, including visualization and machine learning
  • PeopleSoft Query Manager experience is considered an asset
  • Consideration may be given to an equivalent combination of education and experience

DECISION MAKING:

  • Allocate time, prioritize tasks, and determine workflow to meet expectations and conflicting deadlines. Continually assess and adjust priorities and manage tasks in a fast-paced and demanding environment
  • Establish approaches to analytical problems and make recommendations for action. Determine options or range of solutions to problems where no clear guidelines exist
  • Determine appropriate sources for researching and collecting information and data and decide on the content of reports, presentations, briefing/speaking notes, proposals, communications, etc.
  • Coordinate information flow and determine how best to present or report on information at hand to internal and external stakeholders
  • Decide when to involve other team members or additional support units to resolve issues
  • Finds solutions to unanticipated problems and determines how problem and recommended solution may affect information systems

Position Requirements

Reporting to the Director, Student Information Systems and Analysis, the incumbent is part of a collaborative team of high paced professionals providing student data reporting and analytics within the Office of the University Registrar, Undergraduate Admission and Student Affairs areas. The position involves gathering, preparing, and presenting data from disparate sources to meet business requirements, along with educating staff and improving business processes to ensure the highest quality of data governance, analysis, and objective decision-making.

The Student Information Systems Analyst performs complex and routine student information reporting, successfully identifies, analyzes, and disseminates data and information, and ensures consistent interpretation of student data in support of decision making. The incumbent also provides end user support for student data related inquiries.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform complex reporting and detailed analysis of student data, extracting and/or collecting the appropriate data as necessary to inform decision making. Prepare reports and summaries of issues and observations and recommendations for future direction, where appropriate. Encourage and actively seek out ideas from a diverse range of sources and stakeholders
  • Provide data and information in response to internal and external requests. For routine or ongoing requests, researches, analyzes, and recommends the development of efficient mechanisms and/or systems to provide access to the information and reports. Document and communicate any changes
  • Ask detailed, clarifying questions to ensure the accuracy, validity, and suitability of the data requested by university partners and stakeholders
  • Provide technical leadership to coordinate and support the use of PeopleSoft and other university enterprise reporting systems to retrieve and provide student information
  • Collaborate with ITS staff on new and changed reporting requirements, facilitating implementation, and ensuring consistency. Brief senior management team on all outstanding issues including timelines to completion, and any impediments to completion
  • Maintain, update, and ensure accuracy and integrity of information and data contained within office databases such as PeopleSoft and electronic and working files
  • Understand, collaborate, liaise, and communicate with both internal and external business units to plan and provide for information systems changes to meet current and future requirements and to enhance the adoption and usage of information systems support for operations (e.g., report definition, application configuration and rules definition, workflow processes, system enhancements/upgrades, etc.)
  • Undertake other duties as required in support of the department and its initiatives
