Thrift Store Manager

  • Retail management: 3 years (preferred), not for profit / social justice experience

Position Requirements

Recruiting /Interviewing/ Hiring

  • Responsible for external recruiting of staff/volunteers
  • Conducting SSVP interview process of staff/volunteers, offering employment to new hires
  • Offering employment to new hires and disciplining and/ or dismissing staff when necessary

Staff Training

  • Responsible for the development of staff and volunteers
  • Ability to create the ultimate Thrift Store environment, work with staff hands-on to assist in training
  • Ability to motivate staff/ volunteers on a daily basis & conduct motivating staff /volunteer meetings


  • Participate with the finance committee in the Budget development; execute the approved budget plan during the fiscal operating period
  • Planning of wage costs
  • The setting of staff goals/store goals
  • Effective staff scheduling

Sales Management/Inventory 

  • Ability to be a sales leader on the sales floor, ongoing floor coaching, analyze weekly sales
  • Understanding of average sales items per sale and per hour and what effects these statistics
  • Manage store inventory to maximize sales
  • Effective use of facility space for sales floor and stockroom

Visual Presentation/ Loss Prevention

  • Ability to execute an in-store marketing plan to maximize sales potential
  • Awareness of market trends & customer needs
  • Ability to use social media to help market products and create an e-commerce storefront
  • Teach staff loss prevention awareness from external customers and prevent internal loss


  • Ensure effective cash handling, establish a budget and related financial processes
  • Ensure sound banking practices and complete Bank deposits
  • Use of cash register & debit card processing, submit payroll, order supplies
  • Auditing of paperwork, ensure bookkeeping and payroll are completed on time

Truck/Property Management

  • Review daily truck log. Review with drivers any discrepancies identified
  • Ensure drivers complete scheduled vehicle maintenance
  • Identify areas that need maintenance/ repair
  • Use maintenance checklist for daily/ weekly cleanliness of properties inside and out
  • Other duties as required

Type of Job: Full Time,

Hourly Wage/Salary: $25.00 per hour starting wage

Hours: 7.5 - 8 hour shifts (Monday to Friday and possible Saturday part day)
