QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES:
• 4+ years of experience playing, coaching, instructing, and/or teaching basketball
• Previous experience working with military youth and/or youth facing barriers is considered an asset
• Background and knowledge in child and youth sport, recreation, and/or physical activity programs is an asset
• Sport-specific certifications, or training, are considered an asset
• Ability to thrive in a team environment, with high levels of collaboration
• Must be energetic, enthusiastic, organized, self-motivated, and professional
• Emergency First Aid and CPR certifications
• Must provide a clear Vulnerable Sector and background check
• Must provide proof of being fully vaccinated against Covid-19
• Oral and written fluency in English
• Written and oral fluency in French is considered an asset
• Flexible weekday/evening availability required due to the nature of work
• Must be available for one weekend between late January and early February to complete mandatory training – Date to be determined
Position Requirements
The Trenton MFRC with its partners is launching a new Youth Resiliency Program using a sport-based curriculum. This program will require an energetic and dedicated casual hourly employee with a passion for working with youth in community sport programs. The Youth Resiliency Lead Coach will function as a basketball coach and Program Instructor under the guidance of the MFRC Youth Programs team and will initially lead a team of basketball assistants to facilitate basketball programming. The Lead Coach is responsible for instructing youth of all skill levels through on-court basketball skills. This program will utilize other sports in addition to basketball as the program matures.
The MFRC Youth Programs team:
- Facilitates the delivery of engaging, safe, age-appropriate and sport specific programs and events
- The Lead Coach must be knowledgeable in youth sport programs, small sided games and working with diverse youth population
- The Lead Coach must also be comfortable supervising/leading a staff team, developing sport-specific program plans, and monitoring program outcomes
- We are currently seeking applicants with specific experience in basketball for this role
